Londyn Tippett

Londyn Tippett, Hurst. She had finished her junior year at UNT where she majored in journalism and minored in Spanish. She recently started working with KNTU, UNT’s radio station, as a reporter and public affairs director. She also enjoyed attending concerts, shopping for vintage clothes and taking photographs.

Gene Bilney

Gene Bilney, 72, who worked in the Science and Technology Library at UNT from 1985 to 2008, died April 12 in Cherokee, Iowa. Born in Nebraska, he attended high school in Spirit Lake, Iowa, and then Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, before heading for Texas. He studied library science, English literature and theology, attending graduate school at UNT from 1981 to 1988. He also enjoyed walking, traveling, genealogy, movies, antique sales, collecting books and listening to audio books.

Sierra McCorvey

Sierra McCorvey, Warren, Ohio. An opera singer, she was a doctoral student in the College of Music. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music.

Sergey Burlakov

Sergey Burlakov, The Woodlands. He was a freshman majoring in psychology in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. Originally from Russia, he could speak three languages, and he was known for his love of football and his newfound passion for learning about the stock market.

David Jara

David Jara, Dallas. He was a senior taking courses in Frisco and in the G. Brint Ryan College of Business. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines. He enjoyed being with his family, playing video games and traveling.

Jennifer Hestand

Jennifer Hestand, Dallas. She was enrolled as a graduate student in the Toulouse Graduate School. She was working on her dissertation and her doctorate in higher education. She worked as an instructor for Texas Woman’s University and Texas Wesleyan University and had published articles for two medical journals. She loved being with her family and was an avid marathon runner.

Kiara Parguian

Kiara Parguian, Rowlett. She was a junior recreation, event and sport management major in the College of Education. She was known for her love of football and always enjoyed the little things in life.

Justin Solomon

Justin Solomon, Princeton. He was enrolled as a graduate student in the Toulouse Graduate School. He was a third-grade teacher at McSpedden Elementary School in Frisco, and he wanted to inspire and encourage his students. He loved having fun with his family, including serving as the “resident narrator” for game nights.

Rachel Barsis

Rachel Barsis, San Antonio. She was pursuing a second degree in criminal justice in the College of Health and Public Service. She was passionate about helping others with her service dog, Harley, by her side.

Tyler Thurman

Tyler Thurman, Grapevine. He was a junior graphic design major in the College of Visual Arts and Design. He was known for his love of drawing, video games and everything Marvel and he had a presence that could light up the room.
