David Wilgus, Dallas, was named "Best Creative Director" by the Dallas Ad League in October. He is a principal at Carrollton's Launch Agency, which he co-founded in 1999. He has won many of advertising's top awards, including the CLIO, New York Art Directors Show, ADDYs and international festival awards.

Dorothy Rushing (Ph.D.), Denison, co-wrote the manuscript "Denison High School Class of 1942 Remembers the War Years." It will be part of Tom Brokaw's Florida State University collection, World War II: The Human Experience, which will be placed online for researchers.

Deborah Shaw ('86 M.A.), Midland, has been named fine arts director for Midland ISD. She was also among the 400 Fulbright Japanese Scholars selected from across the nation last year and traveled to Japan in the fall. She previously taught theatre, and her UIL One Act Play won the state UIL championship. She earned a master of education degree at Texas Woman's University in 2005.

Jeffrey Owens, Tyler, instructor of history at Tyler Junior College, was named the Ottis Lock Educator of the Year by the East Texas Historical Association in September. The award recognizes excellence in East Texas cultural and historical instruction.

Laura Price Cobb (M.Ed.), Plano, has been named national director of Foundations, the training institute for New Leaders for New Schools, a national organization that recruits and trains principals for urban public schools. The organization is a multiple winner of Fast Company/Monitor Group's Social Capitalist Awards, which recognize top nonprofit organizations working to bring about social change.

Chris Orzechowski, Dallas, has been promoted to director of brand marketing at the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation's Dallas headquarters. Before joining the organization in 2000, she worked in marketing and communicatios at the national headquarters of the American Heart Association in Dallas.

Karl Hovey ('91 M.M.), Alexandria, Va., toured the northeastern United States with the Navy Band. In addition to his duties as principal tuba and section leader, he was the narrator/emcee for the 26-day tour. He was also a featured soloist, performing a virtuoso arrangement of the opera aria Largo al Factotum. He was named the Navy Band's Chief of the Quarter.

Tahita Fulkerson (Ph.D.), Fort Worth, has been named president of the new downtown campus of Tarrant County College.

Tammy Cortimilia (M.Ed.), Dakar, Senegal, is a Southern Baptist missionary serving in West Africa with her husband, Donny. They are strategy coordinators for the Wolof people of Senegal.

Susan Stutzman-Box, Virginia Beach, Va., and her husband, Joe, are proud to announce the birth of their second daughter. Olivia Linn Box, born in September, joins big sister Emily, 1. Susan was recently named director of loss prevention, safety and claims management for the Navy Exchange Service Command.
