'60
Robert E. Lair Jr., Columbus, N.C., won a bronze medal in the 1,500-meter run at the North Carolina State Finals of the Senior Games in 2006. A retired colonel, he served as both a Marine infantry officer and an Army chaplain.

'65
Muriel Yaffe Brounstein ('68 M.Ed.), Folsom, Calif., received her juris doctor degree from the University of Northern California Lorenzo Patiño School of Law in Sacramento in May. She also received the Board of Trustees Award for outstanding service. She was president of the school's Student Bar Association for two years.

*Carrol B. Montgomery ('67 M.Ed.), Sachse, retired in May after 38 years as a full-time athletic trainer and teacher. He served 33 years at North Garland High School after working as a trainer at Irving MacArthur, Midland Lee and Fort Worth Paschal schools and at Dallas Loos Stadium. He was inducted into the Garland Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. While at North Texas, he was a student trainer and a graduate assistant.

'66
Gerald Bowden, Indianapolis, Ind., retired last year for the second time after working as a legal administrator for law firms in Indianapolis. He had retired from the Army in 1988 as a lieutenant colonel. He says he was drafted almost immediately following graduation and, after completing infantry officer candidate school and Ranger school, spent 22 years as an active duty officer. Along the way he earned his master of education degree from Boston University. Jerry and his wife, Nancy, had a son, Chris, also an Army Ranger, who died in the military in 1994. Their daughter, Elizabeth, presented them with their first granddaughter, Kate Elizabeth, in January 2006, with a second scheduled to arrive this May.

'67
Robert E. Holmes (M.B.A.), Birmingham, Ala., has been appointed by the University of Alabama Board of Trustees as the first holder of the Wachovia Endowed Chair in Business Administration. He serves as dean of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Business and Graduate School of Management.

'68
Ann Trugman Ackerman ('69 M.A., '84 Ph.D.), Nashua, N.H., associate professor of education at Rivier College in Nashua, was one of 80 social studies educators selected to travel to Germany last summer as part of the Goethe Institut's Transatlantic Outreach Program. The group toured the country and met with German educators, authors and government officials to gather information about modern Germany for use in their curriculum.
