Vernon L. Austin (’50, ’62 M.Ed.), Gainesville :: He had a 34-year career with the Gainesville ISD, in positions including assistant superintendent of schools, and retired in 1986. He also was an adjunct professor for Cooke County Junior College and a guidance counselor for the Muenster ISD. He was an avid volunteer at North Texas Medical Center and served on its foundation board for 10 years. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the 15th Air Force in Alaska, and also was a Mason for more than 60 years.
