Phoebe Ryan Higginbotham

Phoebe Ryan Higginbotham (‘40), Denton :: She began her career in East Texas as a home supervisor for the Farm Security Administration. She then taught elementary students in Austin, Carthage and Dallas for 30 years before retiring in 1984. Survivors include daughter Patricia Jean Clark (’68), son-in-law Richard (’70) and daughter Mary Katherine Beal (’71). A Denton native, she commuted to college by catching rides with her brothers, but if they could not accommodate her schedule, she occasionally had to sprint down Oak Street to avoid getting a permission slip to attend class from the Dean of Students.
