Lee Winfield (’71), St. Louis, Mo. :: After attending North Texas on a basketball scholarship, where he was named an NCAA Division II All-American in 1969, he went on to success as an NBA player and college coach. He was drafted by the Seattle Supersonics in the third round and spent seven years in the NBA with the Supersonics and Buffalo Braves. In 1970 and 1971, he averaged more than 10 points a game with Seattle. He was also a key member of the Braves' 1975 playoff team. He was an assistant coach for 10 seasons at St. Louis University and later coached at Missouri and at Forest Park Community College. He was inducted into the UNT Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994.
