Kirk Drew

Kirk Drew (’52), Granbury :: After playing football at North Texas, where he was a member of the Geezles, he began his head coaching career at Galena Park in Houston. Moving to San Antonio, he was the winning coach in what Texas sportswriters voted the “Game of the Century” for Texas high school football — Robert E. Lee’s 55-48 victory over Brackenridge — in 1963 and later took Lee to the state championship game. As head coach at R.L. Turner High School in Carrollton Farmers Branch, he took a team not expected to win district to the state semifinals and was named Coach of the Year. He retired from coaching in 1973 to become assistant superintendent for the Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD. In June 1985, he retired to start his own consulting business for asbestos abatement, Drew Consulting Co.
