Johnny Wayne Cooper (‘61), Milpitas, Calif. :: He established a high school mile run record for Texas of 4:17 when he was a senior at Fort Worth Tech in 1958 and ruled the mile and long distance races during the time he ran track for North Texas. His best time for North Texas was 4:07.9, set on March 25, 1961, at Fouts Field. His college friends say he would often sleep on the cement floor of his room to make him a tougher and stronger runner.
