Douglas D. Wiehe (’51, ’55 M.A.), Seguin :: He was a high school and college music teacher and band director for 46 years, including at North Texas from 1966 to 1968, and was director of fine arts at Brazosport ISD for 25 years. He was the executive secretary for the University Interscholastic League Music Region 17 for more than 20 years and served as the region chair and on the state board of the Texas Music Educators Association. He earned a doctorate in music education. In 2006, he was inducted into the Texas Bandmasters Hall of Fame. He served with the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment in Germany and the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, N.C., during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Donna (’51) and three children, including Don Wiehe (’83 M.M.) and Angela Woodbridge (’88 M.M.), and preceded in death by his brother, Larry Wiehe, who attended North Texas in the 1940s.
