Deborah Watkins ('74 M.P.A), Dallas :: She worked for the city of Dallas for 37 years, climbing through the ranks to become its city secretary in 2006 and earning a reputation for her patience and gentleness. After retiring in 2011, she worked as the interim city secretary in Ferris and served as vice chair of Dallas’ Ethics Advisory Commission. She earned a Ph.D. in education from Texas A&M-Commerce and taught at Dallas County Community College. She was president of the Dallas chapter of Delta Sigma Theta. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ted Watkins (’76), who she met on her first day of class at North Texas.
