Byron Ross Baird, Sr. (’78 M.B.A.), Fort Worth. He earned his M.B.A. in insurance at North Texas and later served on several boards, including the President’s Council and College of Business Advisory Board. Byron received the UNT Distinguished Alumnus award in 1996, was a 1998 Alumni Appreciation recipient and was a member of the G. Brint Ryan College of Business Hall of Fame. A member of the 1890 Society, life member of the Alumni Association and a founding member of the Diamond Eagles, he and his wife, Marilyn, established the Dean Henry Hays Professorship for Exemplary Service in UNT’s College of Business. The grandchild of Mrs. Baird’s Bakeries Inc. founder Ninnie L. Baird, Byron worked in several managerial positions for the company and served as the company’s chairman of the board prior to his 1999 retirement. He enjoyed skiing, fishing and golfing.
