Bob Huffaker ('74), Denton :: He was a reporter for CBS’ Dallas affiliate who relayed the events of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination to the national television audience. He also conducted a courtroom interview with Jack Ruby. He co-wrote about the experiences with his then-colleague Bill Mercer (’66 M.A.) in the 2007 book When the News Went Live: Dallas 1963. He left broadcasting in 1967 to earn his graduate degrees at North Texas, then taught at Southwest Texas State University until 1980 and wrote and edited for various magazines, including Texas Monthly and Texas Parks & Wildlife. He was also known for his love of the Texas music scene, serving as emcee for a music festival at Gruene Hall, and a singer at parties in his home.
