A new Cape Horn center in Chile will help UNT's Sub-Antarctic Biocultural Conservation Program capitalize on science, tourism and education, due to its location in the southernmost biosphere reserve in the world and its planned approach to biocultural conservation.

Funded by the Magallanes Regional Council of Chile, the center will conduct training in specialized human resources and sustainable ecological practices, as well as develop scientific tourism for visitors and the local community.

For 15 years, UNT's program -- in collaboration with the University of Magallanes and the Institute of Ecology and Biodiversity in Chile -- has been conducting research, teaching and conservation in the Cape Horn region.
