Shirley Patterson (’55), Albuquerque :: She specialized in gerontology as a social work professor at the University of Kansas, the University of New Mexico, New Mexico Highlands University, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and Arizona State University. A longtime activist, she participated in the war on poverty by opening the Crossroads Counseling Center in Mission, Kansas; co-edited two volumes of Turning Points in Women’s Lives after organizing the “The Gathering of Women” in 2005; and led the National Organization for Women chapter in Sun Cities, Arizona.
