Cindi Asbury Sanchez, Edmond, Okla. :: received the CASA Rena Ellis Lifetime Achievement Award, which goes to a CASA volunteer who has served for fewer than seven years and has worked with children for at least 15 years. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteers advocate for abused and neglected children in the juvenile court system. A physical education teacher for 24 years, she currently works at Messiah Lutheran School in Oklahoma City. While at UNT, she was a member of the Green Jackets, softball team and intramurals.
Her favorite UNT memory is watching The Texas Chainsaw Massacre at midnight on Halloween in the auditorium. “After watching the movie, we had to walk across campus at two in the morning back to our dorm,” she says. “Needless to say, we were scared.”
