Dave Clark (’60), Duncanville :: He was the first student from North Texas to compete in the Olympics, participating in the 1960 games in Rome. He was the first Texan ever to pole vault 15 feet, reaching a record of 15 ft. 3 in. later that year. After his pole vaulting career, he worked in education for 30 years, teaching driver’s education at Dallas ISD. He also was a volunteer coach, giving pole vaulting and swimming lessons in his backyard. While at North Texas, Clark was a two-time Missouri Valley Conference pole vault champion and two-time All-America team member. He was inducted into the North Texas Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988, and was inducted into the Texas Track and Field Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2014.
