Oneta Roberts Furr (’40 M.S., ’68 Ed.D.), Abilene :: She taught in both public and private schools before moving on to teach at the university level. A Professor Emeritus at Midwestern State University, she had organized the department of elementary education and programs in early childhood education and reading education. She served as the state coordinator for the International Reading Association and was active in the Texas Association for the Improvement of Reading. She also served as teaching certification officer and adjunct professor of education at Hardin-Simmons University. She completed postdoctoral study at Texas Woman’s University, the University of Oklahoma and Southern Methodist University. She was 100 years old. Her husband, H. Bedford Furr (’68 Ed.D.), died in 2011.
