Penelope Ann Farris (’50), Springfield, Va. :: She was an accomplished flautist and music teacher. She founded the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra and its Dorothy Feuer Strings Competition in Virginia and the Northern Virginia Youth Symphony. She and her husband, John Farris (’50), were recognized as a Distinguished Alumna by UNT in 1999. The John and Penny Farris Fine Arts Library was named in the Farrises honor for their service to Fairfax County Schools — more than 100 years between them.
