Alexander L. Pickens (’52 M.A.), Honolulu, Hawaii :: He was a Professor Emeritus at the University of Hawaii at Manoa where he had taught art education and served as assistant to the dean for college development. He earned a doctorate from Columbia University and taught at the University of Michigan and the University of Georgia before moving to Hawaii in 1962. He was a philanthropist who continued to raise money for scholarships and endowments until his retirement in 2001. He also was a generous supporter of UNT, belonging to the 1890 Society and the Chilton Society. He was married to Frances Pickens ( ’48, ’54 M.A.).
