Jim McDonald (’60), DeSoto, is active as a State Farm agent in Duncanville. He says C.L. Littlefield, who was chair of the management department and his faculty advisor, introduced him to the vice president of State Farm Insurance and gave him a strong recommendation to become an agent in 1965, and he learned a great deal about accounting from Horace Brock, then chair of the accounting department, who is still a source of inspiration to him. He established a merit scholarship fund in the College of Business in honor of the two professors and a merit scholarship at the UNT Dallas Campus for needy and deserving students. He worked with State Sen. Royce West and former President Norval Pohl to secure an appropriation to help establish the Dallas Campus. He says he also has had a chance to work with President Gretchen Bataille and has “a great deal of admiration for her and her leadership of our university.” He was awarded the Green Glory Award in 2005 and is a lifetime member of the UNT Alumni Association.
