Jairo Moreno, Philadelphia, is a professor in the University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Music, a graduate faculty member in the Department of Anthropology and associate faculty member with the Center for Latinx and Latin American Studies. He authored Sounding Latin Music, Hearing the Americas, which highlights artists who have immigrated to the United States and reveals the transformative power of their music. The book was inspired by his experience as part of the lineage of Latin American music in U.S. history. He earned a bachelor’s in music theory at UNT.
