Grant Harbison (M.M.), Jonesboro, Arkansas, received a $25,000 national Milken Educator Award. As director of bands at The Academies of Jonesboro High School in Jonesboro, Arkansas, Grant was honored for his many efforts including promoting literacy and math; co-chairing the district’s diversity task force and recruiting students from a variety of backgrounds, such as learning differences; setting up a tutoring program for junior high band members; adjusting to the pandemic by modifying instruments and holding rehearsals in tents; and earning honors at band festivals. Grant was one of 60 educators across the nation who received the award, which celebrates the teaching profession, for the 2021-22 school year.
