Douglas Smith (M.M.Ed.), Louisville, Ky. :: retired after nearly 35 years as professor of church music at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. He served as instructor of trumpet at North Texas with John Haynie from 1965 to 1967 while his wife, Rose, served as secretary to the dean of the music school. He earned his D.M.A. in trumpet performance from the University of Michigan in 1969. During his time on the faculty at Dallas Baptist University from 1969 to 1975, he served as principal trumpeter of the Fort Worth Symphony. Throughout his career at the seminary in Louisville, he taught classes in conducting and instrumental arranging, and he conducted both the Seminary Winds and the Seminary Orchestra.
