The seventh annual Mean Green Fling kicked off the new academic year Aug. 28 with live music, free food and games on the Library Mall.

Mariachi music was featured at the Hispanic Heritage Month carnival Sept. 14. The celebration in the Library Mall included dance lessons, a pinata breaking and booths sharing information about different Hispanic nations.

The characters came out Oct. 31 for the annual staff Halloween contest raising money for the State Employee Charitable Campaign.

Coffee ceremonies greeted visitors to “Experience Saudi Arabia: A Personal Exploration of History and Culture,” a five-day interactive exhibit in the University Union in November. Omar Alhegelan, holder of eight world titles and 10 national and world gold medals in skydiving, jumped onto the UNT practice field to open the exhibit.

Members of the Air Force ROTC detachment on campus performed a formal retreat ceremony on Veteran’s Day, retiring the colors at the flagpole on the east side of the University Union.
