The Rev. Kathleen Baskin-Ball, Allen, is the first woman in the Dallas area to serve as senior pastor of a Christian church with an average annual worship attendance of more than 500 people. She has served at Suncreek United Methodist Church in Allen since 2001. The church opened a new sanctuary last year and will begin construction on a new education building next year.

Lynette Coomes Wallace, Houston, has served as executive director of the Bayou City Art Festival for 10 years. The festival, held in March in Houston's Memorial Park, was ranked last year as the second favorite art festival in America by American Style magazine.

Rick Urbanczyk, Plano, who earned his certification in physical education at North Texas, was named 2004 Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year for the state of Texas by the Texas Foundation for Education in Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. He is in his 30th year of teaching, currently with the Richardson ISD, where he was named the 2003 Teacher of the Year.

Joy Van Fuqua, New Orleans, associate professor of communication at Tulane University, taught and conducted research this spring as a Fulbright Scholar at the City University of Hong Kong. Her research compared U.S. and China media representations of SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome).

Claire Miller, Arlington, was selected Teacher of the Year at Lamar High School in Arlington. She sponsored the school's cheerleaders for 10 years.

Kim Nickerson ('89 M.S., '92 Ph.D.), Washington, D.C., is associate director of the minority fellowship program of the American Psychological Association. She has completed a five-year term on the National Advisory Council for the NIH National Human Genome Research Institute.

Ana Barrera Waggoner, Arlington, was promoted to deputy state editor for the Dallas Morning News, where she is responsible for the Houston, San Antonio, East Texas and Border bureaus. She was most recently an assistant business editor at the newspaper.

Laura Cobb (M.Ed.), Allen, is the founder of the Learning Bridge, which offers continuing education in areas such as exercise, art, music, business, fashion, writing, defensive driving and language. She is also a freelance writer, an education editor for Family Digest Magazine and a speaker on parenting and women's issues.

Philip C. Aka (M.A.), Matteson, Ill., was promoted to professor of political science at Chicago State University. He received tenure as associate professor in Fall 2003. After he left North Texas, he studied at Howard University, where he received a doctorate in political science, and at Temple University School of Law, where he received a J.D. in 1991. He has been admitted to practice law in the state of Illinois.

Connie Dye Anastasiou, Richmond, Va., was hired to start up the Richmond office of Profiles, a placement firm for creative and marketing professionals. Prior to joining Profiles, she worked for Art Squad in Dallas for nearly 10 years. She and her husband, Yanni, have two sons, ages 5 and 2.

Sudhir Gogu (Ph.D.), Plainview, completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Tufts and Tulane and attended medical school in Des Moines, Iowa, after graduating from North Texas. He earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine and surgery degree in 1997 and finished his residency in 2000. He is a family practitioner in Plainview and plans to finish an M.B.A. from Texas Tech this summer.

J. Brad Moss, Teuven, Belgium, has opened Moss Consulting. The company provides consulting services to small- and medium-sized businesses based in the United States that are interested in expanding their operations into the European marketplace.

Wendy Wofford-Garcia, San Antonio, says she made a major career switch in 2000 after a decade-long career as an editor in the aerospace industry. She enrolled in law school at St. Mary's University, graduating and becoming licensed to practice in Texas in 2003. She married Michael K. Garcia ('92) in December 2003.

Tait Cruse, Frisco, has been named managing partner of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network of the Texas Financial Group-Dallas. He was a member of the company's Top 20, its highest honor for sales performance, in 2001.
