Greek award
Martha Cheely Brown (’59) of Dallas was awarded the inaugural Outstanding Greek Alumni Award by the Office of Greek Life and the North Texas Exes at the Greek Awards Ceremony April 10 on campus. Brown, who was a member of Delta Gamma sorority at North Texas, serves as chair of the National Panhellenic Conference. NPC is the international governing body for 26 women’s Greek-letter societies, making it one of the largest women’s organizations in North America.
Gulf Coast distinction
Jim McIngvale, founder and owner of Gallery Furniture and owner of Westside Tennis Club in Houston, received the 2005 North Texas Exes/Gulf Coast Martha Turner Award of Distinction at the annual UNT Scholarship Gala at the Houston Racquet Club April 6. McIngvale played football for the Mean Green, lettering in 1972 and 1973, and has been a major supporter of the athletic department. A sketch depicting his Mean Green days was presented to him by President Norval Pohl, athletic director Rick Villarreal and head football coach Darrell Dickey. Proceeds from the dinner will go to a scholarship for a Houston/Gulf Coast student attending UNT.
