Alumni award winners
University alumni awards were presented during the annual Alumni Awards Banquet in April at the Gateway Center. Recipients honored at the banquet, hosted by President Norval Pohl (top left), are chosen by a universitywide selection committee. Receiving this year's Distinguished Alumnus Award, the university's most prestigious award for alumni, were, clockwise from top right, Jerry Durant ('69), Robert R. "Bob" Onstead ('54) and Marvin Stamm ('61). In all, 15 people were honored at the ceremony.

North Texas Exes membership chair Steve Brodbeck ('80) is leading a campaign to increase the alumni association's ranks by 60 percent. He hopes the current "Membership Matters" strategy will boost the organization's numbers from 4,100 members to 6,500 by September. The goal of the Exes is to support UNT in its quest to promote higher education and to provide student scholarships. Active membership status is granted to all graduates, former students and friends who make an annual contribution of $40 (individuals) or $50 (couples). Recent alumni can join free by completing a GRADitude Form (available at
