James Cappel (M.S., ’96 Ph.D.), Mount Pleasant, Mich., was promoted to professor of business information systems at Central Michigan University.

Ron Dodd (’96 M.A.), Brooklyn, N.Y., is senior producer at Air America Radio in New York City, where he has been living since completing his master’s degree. Previously, he served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Poland from 1991 to 1993. His family resides in Krum.

Kimberly Fleming (’92 M.B.A.), Gainesville, was named Teacher of the Year for 2005-06 at Muenster Elementary School. At a banquet held in May, she was surprised with a certificate from her peers.

Mark Pierson, Arlington, accepted the position of project management office manager for Mercury Interactive, a software company specializing in making information technology departments profit centers. The position covers the western United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America and South America.

’91
Tracy Downing, Augusta, Ga., accepted an attorney position with the Department of Veterans Affairs in Augusta, Ga. He will be working with VA Hospital personnel on matters of building construction and other government contract and acquisition requirements. He served most recently with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Reston, Va., as a contracting officer. After graduating from UNT, he earned an M.A. in public policy in 2000 and a law degree in 2002, both from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va. He asks that golfers not contact him regarding tee times at the Augusta National Golf Course, since a membership was not offered as a benefit of the new position.

Lori Ryan Zitzelberger and Terry Zitzelberger (’95), Rowlett, celebrated the birth of their daughter, Amelia Faith, in August. She was also welcomed by her big sister, Bella.

Tony Brown, St. Louis, Mo., was named director of bands at Mehlville High School in St. Louis. He was also named chair of the MHS music department.

David Grabstald, San Francisco, Calif., accepted a technical writer position with Genentech in South San Francisco. Genentech uses human genetic information to develop novel medicines for serious and life-threatening diseases. David continues his freelance writing business with articles for the Nob Hill Gazette, Betty’s List and Benefit Magazine.

Rodney Hess, Denton, who was named an outstanding alumnus by UNT’s history department in April, is a U.S. history teacher in the Keller ISD. He was chosen three times as Teacher of the Year at Fossil Hill Middle School and has been honored as the district’s Teacher of the Year.

*Karl Schindler (’97 M.M.), Phoenix, Ariz., was named director of the music program at Phoenix College. He is also teaching an online music course at Arizona State University, where he completed his D.M.A. in music composition. He lives in Phoenix with his wife, theatre director Anne Dean Schindler.

Wendy Ball, Corinth, is a certified credit counselor in Denton with Consumer Credit Counseling of North Central Texas. She is active in the Denton Benefit League and the Denton Chamber of Commerce. Her husband, Jim, is a loan officer for Countrywide. They have a son, Brett, who began kindergarten this fall.

Kevin Moore and Colleen Nickerson Moore (’92), Frisco, welcomed their first child, Owen Kevin Moore, in March. Kevin is a CAD designer/drafter with AVHQ in Dallas.

Arminda Santiago (M.A.), Quezon City, Philippines, became the chair of the University of the Philippines film department after leaving UNT. She finished her doctoral studies in April and is now the chair of the UP College of Mass Communication’s graduate studies department. She says she misses UNT and enjoyed her stay here.

Scott Woods (’93 M.S.), Southlake, is a certified public accountant and was promoted to principal by Rothstein Kass, where he provided tax consulting and compliance services to clients. He joined the Dallas office in 2004 as a senior tax manager. He began his career as a tax consulting manager with Ernst & Young LLP.

Lynette Schwane, Terre Haute, Ind., married Ed Browne in June. Lynette directs the Community Music Center at Indiana State University.

’95
Mary Crocker (M.S.), Palacios, retired as assistant coordinator of the Houston Area Library System in August and moved to the “City by the Sea,” Palacios.

David DeMattia, Lindstrom, Minn., has received a U.S. patent (7,071,829) for the sensing and counting of flying insects using a laser curtain.

Becke Cleavinger Farha, Lawrence, Kan., and her husband, Rob, have a daughter, Camille McQueen, born in June. She joins big brother Colin, who is 3.

Philip G. Ferguson, Las Vegas, Nev., became the personal markets sales manager for the Las Vegas district of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group in August. He earned his Chartered Life Underwriter professional designation in December 2005.

Julie Lindsey (’97 M.S.), Frisco, has joined Eclat Textile Co. as an account executive. She says she enjoys traveling to Taipei, Taiwan, to visit Eclat’s headquarters.

Jenna Conger Sanders, Austin, accepted a position as principal of Jim Plain Elementary School in Leander. The new school opened in August. She and her husband, Mike Sanders (’96), have two children, Jesse and Olivia.

Pamela Stewart, Phoenix, Ariz., earned a Ph.D. in history from the University of Arizona. She defended her dissertation, “Invisible Revolutions: Women’s Participation in the 1871 Paris Commune,” in 2005 and teaches history at Arizona State University.

Jennifer Bingham Coleman (M.S.) and her husband, Brett (’01), Carrollton, welcomed their third child, Samuel Alfred, in June. Sam was 19 inches and 8 pounds, 3 ounces.

’97
Steve Fischer (M.P.A.), Rockport, is an attorney and has been elected Aransas Area Bar Association president. His son, Huey, who he says often attended class rather than daycare, is student body president at Rockport Middle School. After years of bringing stray rabbits, possums and other animals home, they are now starting a wildlife refuge on 226 acres on Lake Corpus Christi.

Debra K. Lawler, Brownsville, Ky., and her husband, James, opened Serenity Hill Bed and Breakfast, located about a mile from Mammoth Cave National Park.

Marius Necsoiu (M.S., ’00 Ph.D.), San Antonio, has been certified as a mapping scientist in remote sensing by the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. He is one of only two ASPRS-certified professional remote sensing mapping scientists in Texas, and one of just 24 worldwide. He is a research scientist in the Southwest Research Institute’s Geosciences and Engineering Division. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Michael Snoddy (’05 M.M.), Dallas, presented an organ recital at the Thursday Midday Concert Series at First Congregational Church in Los Angeles. He will soon release his first CD, recorded on the new Garland Pipe Organ (opus 42) at Bentwood Trail Presbyterian Church in Dallas.

Stefanie Demchuk-Kanatzar and Kase Kanatzer (’97), Stewartstown, Pa., celebrated their son’s first birthday in May. They work as medical sales representatives and say they will probably be enjoying the East Coast for many more years.

Robert Hanna (’01 M.P.A.), Fort Worth, has been named city administrator for Hudson Oaks. He was hired as assistant city administrator in October 2005 and previously worked for the city of Denton.
