2005 North Texas Athletic Hall of Fame Class
 Krista Davey (’00)
Davey was a four-year letterwinner with the women’s soccer team from 1996 to 1999, joining the program one year after its inaugural campaign. The three-time First Team All-Big West Conference selection led the Mean Green to a 51-22-3 record during her career and helped build the foundation for a program that has never had a losing season. Davey was named to the Soccer Buzz First Team All-Central Region Team in 1997 and 1998 and still ranks among the top five players in every major statistical category.
 Burkley Harkless (’72)
Harkless, a nose tackle for North Texas in 1965 and 1966, was a big part of the 1966 defense that allowed just 118.4 yards rushing per game (the fifth-fewest allowed in school history). The team allowed just 413 total rushing yards, the fewest in the Missouri Valley Conference that year. Not only for his efforts that season, but for both years at North Texas, Harkless was named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference Team.
 Rudy Levarity
Levarity, a two-year track letterman (1980-1981), still holds the school records in the 100-meter dash (10.18), 200-meter dash (20.50) and 800-meter relay (1:23.84). He was also a member of the 1981 400-meter relay team that holds the second-best time (39.84) in school history. Levarity was the second North Texas men’s track and field athlete to compete at the NCAA championships. He advanced to the semifinals in the 100-meter dash and finished seventh in the 200-meter dash in 1980.
 Charles Shepard
Shepard, a four-year letterman with the football team from 1951 to 1955 as an offensive back, was a team captain and an All-Gulf Coast Conference selection in 1955. He was drafted by the Baltimore Colts before going on to success in the Canadian Football League as a punter. He was the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ leading punter from 1957 to 1962 and was named the most valuable player of the Grey Cup championship game in 1959. Shepard played on four Grey Cup championship teams and was inducted into the CFL Winnipeg Hall of Fame.
 Brian Waters
Waters played ironman football as a tight end and defensive lineman for the Mean Green from 1995 to 1998 and was an All-Big West Conference selection his senior season. He led the Mean Green in receptions in 1996 with 28 and also hauled in four receiving touchdowns that year. Waters signed as a free agent with the Dallas Cowboys in 1998 and has since gone on to stardom in the NFL as an offensive lineman with the Kansas City Chiefs. Waters became the first ever NFL offensive lineman to be named the league’s Player of the Week. He was a Pro Bowl selection and named to the NFL All-Pro Team last season.
 Lance White (’86)
White became the third North Texas linebacker to be named to the school’s Hall of Fame in the last two years, joining 2004 inductees Burks Washington and Byron Gross (’90, ’92 M.S.). White was a four-year letterman from 1983 to 1986 and is currently North Texas’ fifth all-time leader in tackles with 325. He was an All-Southland Conference selection in 1984 and 1986 and also was named Honorable Mention All-America by the Associated Press. White was a member of the 1983 Southland Conference championship team and was the team’s defensive captain twice. |
