*Patrick J. Curran (Ph.D.), Las Cruces, N.M., received a diploma in restorative justice from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, in May. He retired as state magistrate judge for Dona Ana County and then was appointed as the county’s pro tem magistrate. His studies were part of his continuing judicial education requirement.

David Martin (’75 M.S.), Denton, was recognized as an “elite” umpire with the Amateur Softball Association, a designation granted to less than 1 percent of 35,000 umpires registered yearly. He has been a sports official for 27 years and has umpired 12 national tournaments.

Lorraine Miller, Washington, D.C., was appointed by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as the 35th clerk for the U.S. House of Representatives and was sworn into office in February. She is the third woman and the first African American to become an officer of the House.

Melissa Richeson-O’Neil, Galena, Ohio, is one of six artists whose work will be featured in a 2007-08 Christian Seasons Calendar. She is the owner of Locusts & Honey Studio in Galena and is known for her silk fabric art.

*Sparky Koerner (M.M.Ed.), Texas City, judged the Buccaneer Jazz Festival at Blinn College in March and the Victoria College Jazz Festival in April. He has taught at the College of the Mainland for 24 years and directs its jazz ensemble, which performed with former Chuck Mangione Quintet saxophonist Chris Vadala this spring.

Rachel Lebon (’80 M.M.Ed.), Miami, Fla., has been professor of music and coordinator of voice at the University of Miami in Coral Gables since 1986. Her CD, Voicings, was released in 2004 and she is the author of two books for vocalists. She also is a member of the Professional Voice Institute.

Randy Pruett, Carrollton, is events manager for Alsbridge, a global advisory firm on outsourcing, shared services and offshoring. He manages conferences, seminars, webinars, speaking engagements and corporate hospitality.

Gerard ‘Jerry’ Reis, Irving, was appointed to the UNT Foundation Board and is a member of the Trust Management and Real Estate Committee. He is the owner of Property Advisers Realty Inc., a commercial real estate firm in Las Colinas. He is the nephew of Gordon R. Carpenter (’40), a former chair of the foundation board.

Elizabeth M. Wilson Russell, Richardson, has nine great-grandchildren. The most recent was born in Utah in September 2006.
