As part of UNT’s long-term plan to bolster its research areas, four new clusters have been added to the research cluster program along with two new areas of strategic investment.

James Morrow, Regents Professor of kinesiology, was named the 2011-12 Alliance Scholar by the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance for his research on the measurement and assessment of physical activity in children, youth and adults.

President V. Lane Rawlins appointed Herman Totten to the interim position of vice president for university and community affairs this spring. Provost Warren Burggren named Linda Schamber to serve as acting dean of the College of Information.
<em>The Princeton Review</em> named UNT a "Green College," 20 ensembles and bands from UNT's renowed College of Music performed at the 31st annual Denton Arts & Jazz Festival and Ohad Shemmer, assistant professor of physics, helped unlock mysteries of supermassive black holes in the universe.
Phil McGraw (’76 M.A., ’79 Ph.D.), famed for his nationally syndicated television talk show Dr. Phil, was the keynote speaker for the UNT master’s and doctoral commencement ceremony in May.
