Melba Vaudene McDonald Pruitt (’52), 95, of Mineral Wells, a teacher known for her service for others, died Sept. 29, 2025. After earning her home economics degree at North Texas, she began a 40-year career in which she taught home economics in Brownwood and Mercedes and computer science in Mineral Wells. She was involved in Delta Kappa Gamma, an international educators organization, for 59 years, and the Palo Pinto Retired Teachers Association for over 30 years, serving in leadership roles for both groups. She advocated for educators’ benefits, a summer lunch program for students and donations of classroom supplies for teachers. She delivered books to rural schools in Palo Pinto County, believing every child should have a book.
