Larry D. Buchanan (’60), 88, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sept. 10. Initially a music major studying under Robert Rogers, Professor Emeritus of music, and performing bass in the Bob Rogers Trio, he shifted to journalism to pursue a career in writing. He moved to Iowa to join the Writers Workshop in Iowa City, but instead found success in advertising. He and two partners co-founded the ad agency, Three Arts Advertising, in Cedar Rapids in 1964. While he served in several executive positions in the firm, he remained the creative director there until his retirement in 2000. An avid pilot and fisherman, he was active in professional and community groups throughout his career, once serving as the president of the Cedar Rapids Symphony. At UNT, he was a member of Sigma Delta Chi and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
