Jean Andrews (’76 Ph.D.), Austin :: Also known as The Pepper Lady, she was a celebrated illustrator, author, lecturer, naturalist, world traveler, collector and cook who began pursuing her doctorate in art at North Texas at the age of 50. She donated original paintings from her books to the College of Visual Arts and Design to help support the Jean Andrews Scholarship fund. She was named a Distinguished Alumna in 1991. She was featured in The North Texan after the publication of The Peppers Cookbook: 200 Recipes From the Pepper Lady’s Kitchen by the UNT Press.
