Emmett Raymond Johnson (’49), Birmingham, Ala. :: In 1963, he was named the executive director of the Amarillo Area Foundation to plan the Amarillo Medical Center, and to design and operate High Plains Baptist Hospital as its first administrator. He spent 19 years as chief executive officer of the Birmingham Baptist Health System, retiring in 1994. He earned a master’s degree from Northwestern University in 1952. He was a life deacon at Mountain Brook Baptist Church and loved running and the outdoors.
