C. Shane Wilbanks (’64), Grapevine :: He was a member of the Grapevine city council for three decades and was serving as mayor pro tem. He helped the city grow into a tourist destination, developed its parks and recreation programs, including the Grapevine Botanical Gardens, and was the first chair of its convention and visitors bureau. He also had served on the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Crime Control and Prevention district board and the 4B Economic Development Corp. board and was the city council’s liaison to the Historic Preservation Commission. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon at North Texas, where he met his future wife of 51 years, Paula Snelling (’65, ’72 M.Ed.).
