After a national search, Seth Littrell, former assistant head coach for offense and tight ends at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, was named the Mean Green's 19th head football coach Dec. 5. A native of Muskogee, Okla., Littrell, 37, will be the youngest coach in Conference USA and the fifth youngest in the nation when he coaches his first game Sept. 3 at Apogee Stadium against hometown rival Southern Methodist University.

Recognized as one of the brightest offensive minds in college football, Littrell turned the North Carolina offense into one of the nation's best in 2015, when the Tar Heels set school records for most points and touchdowns in a season and played for the ACC Championship while winning 11 games. He also is credited for helping North Carolina establish school records for most passing yards, most passing touchdowns and most first downs in 2014. Prior to joining North Carolina, Littrell helped guide top-ranked offenses at Indiana and Arizona and served four years as running backs coach at Texas Tech under Mike Leach. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Kansas.

Littrell has coached in seven bowl games, and he played in two as a running back at the University of Oklahoma, where he was a four-year letterwinner and captain on the 2000 national championship team. He graduated in 2001 from Oklahoma with a degree in communications.

Littrell's Mean Green coaching hires include former Texas Tech and NFL quarterback Graham Harrell as offensive coordinator and Mike Ekeler as defensive coordinator. Harrell comes to North Texas from Washington State while Ekeler will join the Mean Green after coaching at Georgia last season.
