Mean Green advance toward Sun Belt championship game

Editor's note: The Mean Green will play the University of Arkansas at Little Rock for the Sun Belt Conference tournament championship. UALR defeated Middle Tennessee 65-56 in the semifinal game.

The Mean Green men rolled over Western Kentucky 81-62 March 7 to win a spot in the Sun Belt Conference tournament championship versus the winner of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock-Middle Tennessee game.

The championship game will be at 6 p.m. March 8 on ESPN2, the Mean Green Radio Network and online at the Sun Belt Conference website

A win in the March 8 finals will give the Mean Green the tournament title and an automatic spot in the NCAA playoffs for the second consecutive year. 

The team entered the tournament seeded fourth, defeated Troy 83-69 March 5, and No. 1seed Florida Atlantic 78-64 March 6 to advance to the tournament semifinals versus Western Kentucky.

Senior Tristan Thompson, the conference's leading scorer in the regular season, scored 36 points versus Florida Atlantic and 28 versus Western Kentucky.

The victories give the Mean Green a 22-10 record.
