Homecoming parade

“Fly Like an Eagle” resounded as the Homecoming parade entered the courthouse square Saturday afternoon. The band moved back and forth to the rhythm of the music, and the horns glittered as they caught the reflection of the sun. Children scrambled to gather candy thrown from the “Wild With Pride” floats.
Elizabeth Mokry (’94) showed her UNT pride by wearing her “UNT Dancer Mom” T-shirt.
“I came all the way down to Denton from Minnesota and my parents came from Arkansas,” she said. “My daughter is a second- year student and a UNT Dancer.”
Floats — representing everything from the classic Maurice Sendak story Where the Wild Things Are to a Mayan temple crowned with an Eagle — rolled by as the Mean Green prepared to face the Florida Atlantic University Owls.
The crowd applauded as the U.S. Army proudly marched with children dressed in period uniforms representing the Revolutionary War to the future.
“I come up every year for Homecoming,” said Christie Miller (’99) from Killeen. “I would love for my children to come to UNT.”
