Green Pride: UNT Tartan

UNT TartanJoin UNT in commemorating 125 years since our founding in 1890 by wearing UNT tartan starting this summer. The university's official tartan design was created by College of Visual Arts and Design student Casey Heidt ('15) as a unique and lasting way to show your green pride during our 125th anniversary celebrations and for years to come.

Heidt's innovative tartan pattern represents a double-layered map, one of campus with the Hurley Administration Building in the center, and the other of Denton with the downtown square -- the location of the first classes -- in the center. The thick white lines and thin black lines represent streets.

In 2014, UNT's official tartan was accepted by the Scottish Register of Tartans and you'll see it on blankets, scarves, ties and other merchandise with local retailers this fall. Get your UNT tartan gear on campus at the Barnes and Noble at UNT, Apogee Stadium's Mean Green Team Store or at shop.meangreensports.com starting July 1. Proceeds will go to support student scholarships.

Be bold and be proud when you display your UNT tartan. It's a great way to show how we're unique and why we're known as the most creative university in the North Texas region. Learn more about the UNT Tartan.
