  • Pulitzer finalists. Journalism alums Melissa Boughton ('10), Kalani Gordon ('12) and Chip Somodevilla ('95) are 2016 Pulitzer Prize finalists. Boughton, a reporter at The Post and Courier in Charleston, S.C., was part of a team recognized for coverage of the police shooting death of Walter Scott. Gordon, a breaking news editor for The Baltimore Sun, and Somodevilla, a Getty Images photographer, were part of teams recognized for coverage of riots following the death of Freddie Gray.
     
  • Top school for transfers. This spring, UNT was the only public school in Texas listed as a member of the inaugural Excellence in Community College Transfer Honor Roll by Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for two-year colleges. UNT was recognized in every category of Phi Theta Kappa's selection process, from financial aid to student support to outreach and engagement.
     
  • Go, fight, win! The North Texas Cheerleaders' energetic and dynamic nationals routine earned the team third place at the National Cheerleaders Association Collegiate Nationals in Daytona Beach, Fla., this spring. The impressive finish was a perfect ending for the seniors leaving the squad this year and validates the team as a top competitor in the cheer world.
