Ajim Tubuo may only be a freshman, but he's already made an impact on campus.

Tubuo, a finance major, founded the nonprofit Dare to Live, a mental health support organization that has donated $10,000 to the Psychology Clinic to develop group therapy sessions, giving student clinicians new training experiences.

Tubuo founded Dare to Live in 2025 to connect young adults to resources for mental health awareness and suicide prevention. He started the organization after experiencing his own mental health challenges and recognizing a need for accessible care and community support.

He also founded a Dare to Live club on campus to provide peer support and conversation.

While the UNT Psychology Clinic is open to all people regardless of age or background, many of its clients fall within Dare to Live's target population.

"The goal is to foster a sense of belonging in the student community and encourage them to talk more about mental health," Tubuo says.

Jennifer Schwartz, the clinic's director and a board-certified psychologist, called the partnership a natural fit.

"Working toward group therapy services has enhanced our student clinicians' training, and that's going to make them stronger, more highly equipped clinicians," Schwartz says.
