It's alive!
Our first mascot, a live bird, joined us in 1950 with a name familiar to students
today.
So Retro!
Coach Hayden Fry introduced a stylized Eagle when our Mean Green was young — and
lime. The design inspired a beloved nickname.
Rock on!
This Eagle studied English at North Texas before taking a dark desert highway to
California and international music fame.
En Garde!
For a time, our mascot was named for a fencing term, also thought to come from an
Old English word for “young eagle.” Entire Reddit threads are now devoted to him.
Touchdown!
Members of the Geezles gave this all-seeing bird to campus in 2011. Named for the
fraternity’s greeting, he imparts luck to those who rub his head before taking the
field at DATCU Stadium.
Thank Ya Very Much!
Our modern mascot is hard to top — and has an extensive wardrobe. Go Mean Green!
