Pass it on: Great things are happening at UNT. Learn about them here and share our successes with your family and friends.

  • Top honor. Jim Cooksey ('71), vice chairman of Newmark Knight Frank and president of Tenant Representation of Texas, was recently named D CEO's Commercial Real Estate Executive of the Year. The publication recognized him for his forward-thinking approach in the evolution of his real estate firm, Jackson Cooksey, particularly related to its acquisition by NKF. "UNT provided a tremendous blend of challenges and opportunities that laid a solid foundation for me to lead a successful company for more than 30 years," he says.

  • Ed tech entrepreneurs. M.B.A. students Michelle Schodowski ('18) and Charles Laws ('18) won first place at the Ed Tech Ascend Pitch Competition -- hosted at UNT in March -- for their startup Radda. The two were awarded $20,000 to support Radda, an online service that enables musicians to seek and give advice on their compositions.

  • Media savant. Young reporter Phoenix Legg was invited to UNT in March to spend the day as an honorary student at the Mayborn School of Journalism[BROKEN LINK]. He met UNT President Neal Smatresk and Provost Jennifer Cowley, who surprised him with a special $5,000 scholarship in recognition of his work. The 11-year-old garnered national attention during the 2016 presidential campaign when he convinced his father that the two should travel the nation reporting on political events. During his visit, Legg attended a news broadcasting class, visited with the North Texas Daily, helped in a KNTU broadcast and participated in ntTV's evening news program. He capped off the day by meeting CNN's Don Lemon, who was on campus for the Distinguished Lecture Series.
