Three UNT professors were awarded a National Science Foundation grant to study the effects of political conflict on language and culture.

The grant will allow Shobhana Chelliah, a professor in the Department of Linguistics who initiated the idea, and her co-collaborators James Meernik and Kimi King from the Department of Political Science to host a conference in 2018 and research the issues more deeply.

"This is a new partnership between linguistics and political science to see how our two disciplines improve understanding of the complex issues around language endangerment and political instability," Chelliah says.
