Marcus E. Drewa, Jacksonville Beach, Fla. has received many honors for his lifetime service to the health care field. As president of Methodist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla., for 33 years, he helped transform the hospital, which became known as “The Miracle on Eighth Street,” into a leader in health care in North Florida. He added facilities and property through the years, started a transplant program and began the first hospice organization in Florida. He began his health care career as a storeroom clerk in a Tyler hospital in 1951. The Marcus E. Drewa Health Care Administration Distinguished Chair at the University of North Florida College of Health is named in his honor.
