Graduation Year: '67 M.M.

Joel Duskin (’67 M.M.), Bedford, is enjoying retirement after teaching for 32 years at various schools in Arkansas, as well as Temple, Hurst-Euless-Bedford and Dallas ISDs. His first job was as junior high school band director in Hot Springs, Arkansas, where one of his saxophone students was future U.S. President Bill Clinton. He later taught at schools in DeQueen, Arkansas, and Texarkana, Texas, before working as assistant professor at Stephen F. Austin State University. He also studied for his Ph.D. and taught part time at North Texas, but had to leave after seven years. “I still have many fond memories of my years at UNT and classes with Dr. David McGuire, John Haynie, my horn teacher Clyde Miller and many other fine teachers,” he says. “They were all most encouraging and helpful and were a credit to the reputation of the College of Music at UNT.” His granddaughter Zoe Oldenburg is a sophomore at UNT.
