Christopher Renquist North, Brooklyn, New York, attended North Texas from 1987 to 1990 and studied music composition. A composer, songwriter, conductor and multi-instrumentalist, he made his Carnegie Hall conducting debut in 2023 with the Association of Classical Musicians and Artists Orchestra, leading the 24-piece ensemble in a program featuring Mozart Clarinet Concerto and the world premiere of his own composition, “(on the) Verge Of.” His third collaboration with filmmaker Sam Pollard provided the score for Max Roach: The Drum Also Waltzes, which premiered on the PBS series American Masters. The pair previously collaborated on music for the 2016 documentary Two Trains Runnin’.
