Brian Jones, Dallas, principal timpanist of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, collaborated with composer and Princeton University composition professor Steven Mackey on Mackey’s composition “A Different Drummer” at its world premiere with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in 2019. This was Jones’s third world premiere of a timpani concerto with full symphony orchestra.
