Anthony J. Berdis (Ph.D.), Chesterland, Ohio leads a team at Cleveland State University that has improved the effectiveness of temozolomide, a drug used to fight brain tumors but is only effective for less than a year. He and his team developed a DNA polymerase inhibitor that reduces resistance to the drug and can lead to higher survival rates. They are conducting toxicity studies to obtain FDA approval. Testing is planned to extend to other cancerous tumors to test the inhibitor’s effectiveness on other types of cancer. He has worked at Cleveland State University since 2012.
